Éigse na Brídeoige 2010

Caoineadh Airt Uí Laoghaire
Friday 5th February - Sunday 7th February
Carrying a "Brídeog" or "Capall" as appropriate, groups go from house to house and pub to pub on St. Brigid's Day. They play music, dance and sing, remaining disguised all the time.
Éigse na Brídeoige will be celebrated around St. Brigid’s Day, 2010. Each year we focus on some aspect of the culture and society of Iveragh. This year, we will focus on Caoineadh Airt Uí Laoghaire, the famous lament composed by Eibhlín Dubh Ní Chonaill for her husband Art. Eibhlín Dubh was one of the O'Connells of Derrynane, and that heritage has left its stamp on the poem.
